In Memory of Smokie

I haven't posted in awhile. On Wednesday night, October 22nd, we had to put down our beloved black lab Smokie. He was 13 years old and had a herniated disc and had lost all use of his back end. Smoke was our baby, and had always had a lot of medical issues, which we struggled with but he would always bounce back. Not this time and we knew that he was ready to go as we could not let him be in pain. This was the hardest thing I have ever had to do, especially since his mind was just fine. So we gave him his last McDonalds burger and kissed him good bye. We are hoping he hooked up in doggie heaven with our other lab Jack who passed away in 1995. Jack will take care of him and show him the ropes I am sure!!

A few weeks prior we had purchased Zeus, a 16-week old black lab puppy because we had been told that our two boys Smoke and Zeppo were so joined at the hip that if once of them passed away, the other might die of a broken heart. So we took the plunge and got a MONSTER puppy!!!!! Zeus is very sweet, but he has an attitude and apparently we had forgotten how badly a lab pup loves to chew!!!! Because he chews everything in his path. We should have named him after a hurricane - as he is as destructive as one aand leaves a DEVASTATING path wherever he ventures. We are hoping that Zeus will help Zeppo heal, as we can tell that Zeppo is still waiting for Smoke to come home.

We will miss Smoke very much as he was such a clown and provided us with a lot of enjoyment throughout his 13 short years with our family.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. I know from personal experience how devastating it is to lose your pet and one of your best friends. Maybe ours have hooked up with yours and they are all having a grand old time!

  2. Sorry for losing one of your best friends. I know how you feel. I had to put Kelsey down last June. You may remember, she was Duane Sr's. She kept me alive after I lost him and she kept on to become my best friend. I don't know if we can ever replace those we lose, but hopefully we can go on and heal through new friends.
