2009 and The Economy

I have been listening to the politicians for the past few months talk about the horrible state of our economy (like it's a shock to them that there is a problem....). Unemployment rate is up, retail sales are down, even the weather is acting up more than usual (can anyone say "global warming"?). The financial experts say "go out and buy something". And that is really what we all need to do. But who can afford to buy something other than essential items???? And some people cannot even find a way to do that.

But if we all try and spend a little bit when we can maybe we can all help turn things in a more positive direction. And when you decide to spend, maybe be a little more selective in your decision process instead of just jumping in the car and driving to the local malls. How about buying from an artist? There are so many wonderful and talented people out there trying to make their living doing something they love, please at least give them a look before you buy. There are numerous places to find them - your local farmers markets, art galleries, boutiques, art festivals/craft fairs and online marketplaces. Your item will most likely be unique and possibly one-of-a-kind and WAY less expensive then a big fancy department store. Some places to shop online are Etsy and 1000Markets (see my links). There are fabulous artists on these sites for almost anything that you might be in the market for.

Well happy spending in 2009!!!! Hopefully we will see some sunshine at the end of the tunnel.

K
